This exhibition celebrates the publication of David Redfern's new book "The Unclosed Eye" by examining the images that have made him an internationally renowned music photographer.
"You Know Redfern, he's the Cartier-Bresson of jazz" - Dexter Gordon.
This superb collection of photographs spans four decades, from the 60's through to the 90's, of ever changing music & style. The exhibition has been selected from the 300 photographs included in the book. Several have never been published nor exhibited before and of particular interest are previously unseen images of The Beatles and Dusty Springfield.
Redfern's photographs view as a musical roll call of the big names. Starting with the 'senior greats' of jazz such as Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra and Buddy Rich, Redfern witnessed the progression from jazz to rock 'n' roll and through to the rhythm and blues-derived popular music led by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The legends continue with Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan. By the 1970s David had established himself as one of the top music photographers in the business. Redfern knew and photographed them all, capturing the faces, fashion and spirit of four milestone decades of music history.
Displayed with the photographs are the stories behind each image. Each one is as intriguing as the images themselves - each taken with an unclosed eye.
