The Gallery schedule for 2001 begins with an intriguing and accomplished series of large scale racing greyhound photographs by Euan Myles. From an early age, Euan has loved dogs. As a boy he bred whippets and these were regularly trained on tracks at the local miners welfare near his home in Nottinghamshire. In 1998, Euan bought a lurcher, Oscar, from the Edinburgh Dogs Home - an experience that inspired this collection of photographs.
Influenced by the classical formality of animal portraiture of the eighteenth century, these images underline the grace and beauty of the greyhound. Often unreasonably thought to be aggressive, the breed actually possesses a truer, more gentle nature - a fact starkly underlined in this series of photographs. The images form part of a larger project that Euan is developing on greyhound tracks, trainers and owners.
This London exhibition of 'Trap 6' follows the tremendous success of its first showing in Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival of 2000
The show features 6 large giclee prints measuring 45" x 60" for £650, though smaller, 16" x 20" giclee prints will also be available for £400.
Euan has made a successful career in the advertising and design field of photography. His recent work for "Irn Bru" was voted "Best Poster of the Century" by Campaign Magazine in 2000.
